“What unites them is the belief that they are morally qualified to redesign society, which is exactly why they are the last people on earth who should be charged with the task”. And they keep getting clicks and, worse, votes!!!!
Even if a person I loathed had died - especially by alleged murder - I would not celebrate. I would just say nothing. For me, it would be dishonorable - crass, even - to gloat like these grotesques have done.
I don't think I've ever felt glee at the passing of people I think are horrible. Maybe I have and can't recall. Osama bin Laden? I don't actually think so. Maybe some relief that a chapter was closed. Likewise those recently taken out in Iran ... there's no joy in the death of those I oppose, even those I presume are wicked.
One of the most eye-opening moments I had in the past 5 years was looking at the reactions and the unbridled vicious glee of leftists when Charlie Kirk was assassinated. It was stunning even to me, even though I had already recognized the vitriol, hypocrisy, and frequent sociopathy of the woke left at that point. Seeing the continuous flow of hate and death threats against gender critical women from trans activists, including antifa/trantifa and their leftist acolytes had clued me in to the reality of these sanctimonious empty shells.
Ann's murder, and then the recent death of Lindsay Graham reminds me how glad I am to have disconnected myself from these folks, and their extremely toxic views and behaviors.
Excellent observations and discussion Frederick. My highest compliment - humbly submitted - is that I can add nothing of substance to your essay other than my wholehearted agreement. You have said everything that can be said on this subject and you've done it with class. These people are evil, soulless ghouls and the proof of that is that nothing you've said here - or said by anyone on our side of the chasm that separates us - would penetrate a millimeter into their morally blind, smug self-righteousness.
You make a good point at the end Frederick where you point out that many of the people that committed historical evils in the past didn't think themselves evil. I've long thought that neither Hitler, nor Stalin nor Mao, to name just a few, looked themselves in the mirror in the morning and said "Mwahahaha! What an evil bastard I am" while twirling their Snidely Whiplash mustache. No, they no doubt thought they were the good guys doing good and necessary things. And that's a frightening thought. I think the only antidote is to self reflect. And listen to the reflection. A lot.
But it occurs to me that self-reflection is absent in these types.
After the news of Lindsey Grahams death, there were tons of joyful comments. Mostly because he became a Trump supporter. Though some comments labeled him a war monger. These could have been Russian trolls as he had been pushing Trump to tighten Russian sanctions in aid of the Ukrainian people.

Thank you. In retrospect, I should have started "If there was anyone I loathed...", because I'm not sure there is or has been.
I couldn't agree with you more.
Thank you.

Another excellent observation.
I was confused by the subtitle.
"hatred of the Left"?
Maybe "by" or "from"?
I show how people can misunderstand.
Ah, yes – a bit ambiguous. I changed it. Thanks.

Thanks, Attila – that’s very generous and much appreciated.
I don't have to tell you how Bluesky is responding to Lindsey Graham's demise.
With unparalleled decorum and sensitivity, I'm sure.
A collective opera of congeniality and deference.

Celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination is no different than celebrating MLK’s
